DPDB Kohima reviews development initiatives

The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Kohima was held on September 15 at the DPDB Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Kevipodi Sophie MLA, with Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman B. Henok Buchem (NCS) presiding over the proceedings.
According to DIPR report, the meeting began with the felicitation of Peleno Petenilhu, a teacher from John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema, who was recently conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2025. Petenilhu described the honour as deeply humbling and reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive and innovative education.
The board approved the registration of Lechale Khamo Society and Koinonia Society, and presented the Village Adoption Awards for 2024–25. The 14th Southern Angami I Committee was adjudged best-performing, followed by the Northern Angami I Committee. Both committees showcased extensive initiatives including livestock vaccination, skill development, forest fire prevention, sanitation drives, infrastructure upgrades, and digital learning support.
The board also approved the constitution of new Village Adoption Committees (VACs), LADP Verification Committees, and recommended the upgradation of Don Bosco School, Peducha, to Class VIII.
A departmental presentation by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department highlighted treatment of over 14,000 animals, vaccination drives, and containment of African Swine Fever outbreaks. Schemes under ASCAD, NADCP, and NLM were also implemented.
Mission Shakti sensitised members on the POSH Act, 2013, detailing workplace harassment protocols and the status of Internal Complaints Committees across Kohima. The District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) for Safe Food and Healthy Diets reviewed implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and announced inspection drives and awareness campaigns.
The meeting also highlighted the “One Day with the Deputy Commissioner” initiative, launched on Teachers’ Day, offering meritorious students firsthand exposure to governance. The Rural Development Department presented on the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyaan, aimed at building tribal leadership and welfare access through Adi Seva Kendras.
Concluding the meeting, Kevipodi Sophie MLA congratulated the award-winning committees and lauded the DC’s initiative as a transformative step for youth engagement. The next DPDB meeting will feature a presentation by the Sericulture Department.
