

DIMAPUR: District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meetings were held in Longleng, Zunheboto, Meluri and Peren on October 6, 2026, deliberating on key developmental and administrative agendas.
In Longleng, the meeting was chaired by B. Bangtick Phom MLA at the DPDB Hall. The board reviewed the proposal for establishment of a blood storage unit and blood bank at the District Hospital, which was forwarded to higher authorities for approval. Electrification and installation of a 100kv distribution transformer at the new hospital building was also discussed, with the Medical Superintendent entrusted to coordinate further. The house decided to organise a departmental tournament from October 29-31. A proposal for creation of additional posts in the Police Department was deliberated and agreed to be forwarded for consideration. Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, informed members about the visit of the Central Post Disaster Needs Assessment Team on October 7 and urged departments to compile damage data. He also requested presentations from PWD (R&B), Agri Allied and Medical Department during the Governor’s visit on October 8. The Urban Development Department presented on sanitisation and solid waste management, while Sr. SP Yanger Jamir highlighted departmental activities. The Forest Department was entrusted to present in the next meeting.
In Zunheboto, the meeting was chaired by DC & Vice Chairman DPDB, Dharam Raj, at the DC’s Conference Hall. Reviewing previous decisions, the DC informed that the Town Hall had been handed over to Zunheboto Government Higher Secondary School. The shortage of graduate teachers at the school was also discussed. Dharam Raj stressed that Heads of Offices must remain stationed at their postings and attend to responsibilities.
The board deliberated on a proposal to establish a library in memory of late L. Sailo, former EAC Satakha, who was killed in an ambush in 1974. Presentations were made by the District Employment Office and Government ITI Zunheboto, focusing on employment and skill development, with Instructor Er. Bendangwati delivering the ITI presentation.
In Meluri, the meeting was chaired by advisor NSDMA & Inland Waterways, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, at the DB’s Court, DC Office. The board reviewed previous agendas and discussed developmental issues. Representatives of NHIDCL were asked to update on the ongoing Akash Bridge-Akhegwo road works, with members expressing concern over its poor condition. ADC Shelly Katiry and the Pochury Hoho also voiced dissatisfaction, urging immediate improvement.
The Meluri Sports Association appealed to departments for financial contributions towards sports development. On administrative matters, ADC Katiry highlighted the absence of a strong room in the district with elections approaching, urging early arrangements. The chairman directed Heads of Offices to safeguard departmental premises and avoid issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) that could compromise office infrastructure. EAC Kum Pipfusa Pojar gave a presentation on election related matters, highlighting the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and stressing the importance of including all eligible citizens.
In Peren, the meeting was chaired by DC & Vice Chairman DPDB, Hiazu Meru, at the DC’s Conference Hall. The board reviewed proceedings of the previous meeting and deliberated on the status of NAAC accreditation process of Peren Government College, Green Peren initiatives, the Green Peren Outlet at Jalukie, Unity Mini Hornbill Festival, Inter Departmental Tournament, and the Barak River Catchment Area Project. The house discussed the request of Peren Town Youth Organization for financial assistance from departments towards organising the 18th Edition Inter Ward Tournament of Peren Town scheduled for November 2026. After deliberation, the matter was left to the discretion of respective departments. On the proposal for creation of a Sub Centre at Mhaikam Village, the house approved the proposal.
The meeting also reviewed the measles outbreak in Peren district. Medical Superintendent, Dr. Antoly Suu, informed that confirmed cases had been reported from Veterinary Colony and Jalukie B, but the situation was contained with cases declining. The DC stressed the importance of awareness programmes and informed that advisories would be circulated to ensure preventive measures.
On Reform Utsav, the DC informed that the programme, a Government of India initiative, would be undertaken over three months-October, November, and December-and was formally launched at New Peren Village on October 2, 2026. He briefed the house on its objectives, emphasising citizen feedback to identify areas requiring improvement and bring meaningful change. The board also discussed the Village Development Plan at New Peren Village. The DC noted limited awareness among villagers regarding their rights and a communication gap at the grassroots level. To address this, the house constituted a committee with EAC Peren HQ as convenor and BDO Peren as member secretary. The meeting also included PowerPoint presentations by the Youth Resources & Sports Department and Forest Department on their respective programmes and activities.
