Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, and Odisha, Dr. S.C. Jamir, has called on the Gorkha community to preserve and promote their rich cultural traditions.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 211th Bhanu Jayanti celebration held at K4 Venue, Ward-9, Chümoukedima Town on July 13. Dr. Jamir said it was a privilege and a matter of pride to be part of the celebration, and acknowledged the historical struggles and progress of the Gorkha community over the years.
The event was also attended by Razouvotuo Chatsu, chairman of Chümoukedima Village Council and advisor of Angami Public Organization, as guest of honour, and M.B. Aley, former president of Gorkha Union Mokokchung and retired assistant director, Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, as special invitee.
M.B. Aley, in his address, highlighted the contributions of the Gorkha community to the development of Nagaland and expressed gratitude to the state government for recognizing Gorkhas as non-Naga Local Indigenous Inhabitants.
Razouvotuo Chatsu encouraged the Gorkha community to remain united and build strong ties with other communities. He spoke about the Gorkhas’ journey to Nagaland and their integration into local society, urging them to uphold values of honesty and humility.
The celebration featured cultural performances by Gorkha bands, traditional dances, and songs that showcased the community’s heritage.
Jacob Sundas, president of the Gorkha Students’ Union Chümoukedima District (GSUCD), thanked all participants and attendees for their support in honoring the legacy of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.
