Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome clarifies on GHS Longkhum closure

Correspondent

Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, has addressed concerns regarding the closure of a government school in Longkhum village, stating that the department has been assessing student performance across institutions.
Yhome said the matter involved community demands related to land and Grade IV appointments. He added that if the village decided to discontinue the school, the government would have no option but to withdraw teachers and consider relocating resources to areas such as Alichen, where a higher secondary school could serve a larger population.
He explained that the government is focusing on tracking student outcomes and expanding vocational education opportunities for those unable to complete matriculation. Expressing concern that academically weaker students are often neglected, Yhome reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting government school students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
