Minister for Urban Development and Higher Technical Education, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Thursday exhorted the Angami GB’s Association to lead the people with wisdom and upright justice as leaders of the village.
Speaking at the 28th convention of the Angami GB’s Association at Ura Academy, Dr. Shürhozelie said that the Tenyimi people were blessed with inborn wisdom, worth more than education. He asserted that money cannot buy wisdom. He said that the customary laws of the land be preserved and practiced by the GBs.
Dr. Shürhozelie further urged the GBs to be responsible as heads of the community and practice honesty, sincerity, selflessness and patience while performing their duties. He added that association should maintain peaceful situation in the land.
During the convention, the Angami GBs Association declared three resolutions unanimously accepted by its members. The association resolved that a GB under its jurisdiction would be dismissed from the association if found to be involved in any factional group or organization. The State Government would also cancel his appointment as a GB.
The Association also appealed to all the underground factions to stop killing innocent civilians and GBs. It also resolved to condemn and seriously deal with any faction that assaults or threatens any GB. Around 220 GBs attended the convention from 55 Angami villages. The programme was also attended by the Angami Women Organization, the Angami Youth Organization, and other well wishers.
Earlier, invocation prayer was said by Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü, executive director, ABCC, welcome address by Salieo Kense, president Northern Angami GBs Association, report by Neingusie, folk song presented by Cultural Vibrant Kohima and vote of thanks by Keviselie Yiese. The programme also featured a song competition amongst the GBs. The programme was chaired by Neithovilie Miasalhou, acting president, Angami GB’s Association.
