Dr. Yhome calls for coordinated action on waste management

DIMAPUR: Advisor for School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, called for coordinated efforts among departments to address water supply, waste management and other pressing urban issues in Kohima.
He was speaking at the Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held at DPDB Hall, Kohima on August 17, a DIPR report stated.
Dr. Yhome directed the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to submit a report on proposed water treatment initiatives. He also urged preparedness by the Urban Affairs and Municipal Affairs departments in view of the Supreme Court directive on waste management.
He noted that waste management plans have been initiated in areas including Lerie and the landfill site in Kohima, stressing the need for timely and coordinated implementation.
Referring to Externally Aided Projects (EAPs), Dr. Yhome asked departments to coordinate with their respective heads and prepare details of sectoral outlays, particularly for solid and liquid waste management in Kohima, for presentation at the next monthly meeting.
He further called for presentations by relevant agencies on urban development and directed departments concerned with rural development, urban engineering and disaster management to conduct a quick survey of major issues affecting communities and submit a brief report.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi.
