Dr. Yhome visits GHSS Wokha to review Lighthouse School Complex progress

Correspondent DIMAPUR, may 26 (NPN):

Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, visited Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Wokha on May 26, to review infrastructural developments under the NEP Lighthouse School Complex initiative.
A coordination meeting preceded the site visit, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar, focusing on government school infrastructure and the progress of the NECTAR project. Dr. Yhome emphasized the importance of revitalizing public schools and called on all stakeholders to contribute actively toward Wokha’s educational future.
A key concern raised was land encroachment at GHSS Wokha. While originally allotted 11.85 acres, recent surveys show only 4.15 acres remain. Dr. Yhome appealed to local communities and civil society to safeguard the school’s land, underscoring its long-term value.
Inspecting the site, he objected to hostel construction within the school playground, stressing the impact on students’ holistic development. He ordered the relocation of the structure and recommended demolishing unused buildings to accommodate separate hostel facilities for boys and girls.
Dr. Yhome reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting school lands and offered legal support if required. He highlighted Wokha’s potential to become an educational hub and advocated for strong community participation to help ease rising educational costs and drive transformation in government schools.
Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dr. Chumben Murry, praised Dr. Yhome’s proactive leadership and reiterated support for strengthening public education. Representatives from Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, and the original land donors expressed gratitude for the visit and the advisor’s efforts to address pressing educational issues.
The visit was accompanied by top education officials including the Commissioner Secretary for Education and SCERT, State Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha, and the Principal Director of School Education. The meeting also included members of the District Committee for Lighthouse School Complex (DCLSC), Wokha Town Councilors, and local stakeholders.
