Driver arrested in hit and run case at Phek

DIMAPUR: Phek police have arrested one person in connection with a hit and run incident that occurred at Bible Hill Colony, Phek, on June 13.
According to police, a blue Maruti Celerio (Regd. No. WB20AG3894) coming from the wrong side of the road struck two women pedestrians, one of whom was pregnant, before fleeing the scene.
Both victims sustained injuries and were admitted to District Civil Hospital, Phek, where doctors confirmed their condition as stable.
Following the incident, a special team was deputed to the location. The vehicle was later found abandoned near a garage at Zion Colony and seized by police. With assistance from PTCSU, the absconding driver was apprehended by the Special Operation Team.
A case has been registered vide Phek PS Case No. 0002/2026 under Section 281/117(2) BNS read with Section 185 MV Act for further investigation.
Police reiterated that rash and negligent driving causing injury was punishable under Section 281 BNS, while driving under the influence of alcohol beyond permissible limits is a crime under Section 185 MV Act. Further, Section 134 read with Section 187 of the MV Act makes it a legal duty to assist the injured and report accidents to the police.
Nagaland Police has urged all motorists to drive responsibly and extend immediate help to accident victims, warning that failure to do so attracts strict legal consequences.
