Security forces in Manipur, in separate operations, recovered a large quantity of narcotic drugs and a large cache of arms and explosives on April 29, officials said on Thursday.
The large quantity of narcotic drugs – 12 kg of WY tablets packed in 10 plastic bags and 0.078 gram of brown sugar packed in two soap cases – were recovered from Tengnoupal IVR area under Tengnoupal police station, the police said. The contraband drugs were recovered from a four-wheeler, the police added. However, the source did not mention whether any person was arrested during the operation. In another operation at Khangtung village under Molcham police station in Chandel district, the security forces recovered a large cache of arms, explosives and ammunition on the same day (April 29), the police said.
Meanwhile, the security forces arrested an alleged arms smuggler and active cadre of the NRFM (National Revolutionary Front Manipur) during an operation in his locality in Bishnupur district on April 28.
The nabbed alleged arms smuggler was identified as Khwairakpam Doren Singh (42) of Upokpi Mayai Leikai
A mobile phone with a SIM card was seized from his possession, the police added.
The police said that the security forces continued to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. They also ensured movement of 119 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam section) with strict security measures in all vulnerable locations.
