Authorities in Mizoram destroyed narcotics worth ₹465 crore in Champhai district on Tuesday, marking one of the state’s largest anti-drug operations. The seized contraband included 35.85 kg of heroin, 490.89 kg of methamphetamine, and 4.74 kg of alprazolam, all confiscated between March and October 2025. The destruction was carried out after clearance from the district court, underscoring intensified enforcement along the Indo-Myanmar border, a known trafficking route.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aaquib hailed the operation as a major achievement, noting that Champhai had destroyed drugs worth ₹117 crore last year. Police records show 147 NDPS cases registered in 2025 with 260 arrests, including 58 Myanmar nationals, while 47 cases have already been filed in 2026. Officials stressed the need for awareness campaigns to protect youth, stronger referral systems for offenders, and public cooperation to curb trafficking in Champhai, which is also emerging as a tourist destination.
