Drugs Disposal Committee (DDC) of Police Commissionerate, Dimapur carried out a pre-trial destruction of seized narcotic and psychotropic substances worth Rs 34.83 crore at DMC dumping ground, Burma Camp here on Thursday.
According to a communiqué from the CP’s office, the seized narcotic and psychotropic substances that were destroyed included 9.741 kg of brown sugar, shanflower, and heroin worth Rs 2.92 crore, 16,537 SP capsules/nitrosen tablets worth Rs 4.13 lakh, 5 kg crystal meth worth Rs 5 crore, 2.450 kg opium worth Rs 2.45 lakh, 17,269 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 16.95 lakh, 2,600 kg of opium straw worth Rs 26 crore and 1,34,203 WY tablets/Simplex-e worth Rs 67 lakh.
The narcotic disposed/destructed pertained to 79 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 across police stations under Police Commissionerate, Dimapur.
The destruction was witnessed by representatives from Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland district administration, and civil society organisations.
DDC headed by the Commissioner of Police, Kevithuto Sophie as chairman had conducted physical verification of the seized narcotics on ground at the prosecuting inspector office, court complex on December 4.
DCC members —DCPs of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts, and SP (Crime), PHQ, Kohima — were also present on the occasion.
