DSSU calls for strict enforcement of COTPA Act

DIIMAPUR: Dimapur Sümi Students’ Union (DSSU) has called for stricter enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 to safeguard public health.
In a press release, DSSU president, Kiyeka V. Assumi and general secretary, Atono V. Swu, highlighted key provisions of the Act, including the prohibition of smoking in public places, the ban on selling tobacco products to persons below 18 years of age, and the restriction on sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions. It urged shop owners, vendors, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and the general public to cooperate in creating tobacco-free environments. DSSU further encouraged reporting of violations and stressed the importance of public awareness to achieve a healthier, tobacco-free society.
