Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU), in an effort to protect the health and well-being of students, prohibited the sale of tobacco products to students in and around educational institutions.
In a press release, DSSU said that the ban has been imposed in compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply, and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA).
Therefore, Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union prohibited the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of any educational institution and urged the removal of all advertisements and promotions of tobacco products in any form. Further, the union appealed to all stakeholders to comply with this order and support the efforts to create a healthy, tobacco-free environment in Dimapur.
