Department of Soil & Water Conservation (DS&WC) held a coordination meeting with Minister, Soil & Water Conservation and Geology and Mining, Government of Nagaland, V. Kashiho Sangtam on Wednesday. The meeting was called to deliberate departmental activities and to review the progress of projects and schemes in all districts implemented during 2017-18.
A press release from DS&WC deputy director, Hetoho Y Swu stated that speaking at the programme, V. Kashiho Sangtam expressed his concern for the paucity of finances that the department was facing and encouraged the department to propose identifiable and impressive projects which would benefit the public. He also suggested that an appropriate mechanism for transfer and posting of the officers equitably in all districts, be created. He remarked that the projects implemented should be sustainable for years even after the completion of its term and encouraged the beneficiaries to own and maintain them. He further assured the department that he would look into its problems and called for well-organized team work to take the department to greater heights.
Additional director and HOD, Viliehu Nguzhu, in his welcome address highlighted the organizational set up of the department and maintained that the district officers were the governors of the department in the district. District Soil Conservation Officers (DSCOs) of all the 11 districts presented the completed and ongoing projects of their respective districts substantiated by the activity photographs. Various proposals were made by the officers for revival of state Land Use Board (SLUB), implementation of new projects, strengthening of manpower, renovation and construction of infrastructure, purchase of new machineries etc. They also aired their grievances about the problems they faced when executing their works. The mechanical division, located in Dimapur, presented a report on the status of the department’s heavy machineries.
The programme was chaired by Commissioner & Secretary, Vikeyie Kenya while a vote of thanks was proposed by Project Director, K. Zhekheto Awomi.
