A meeting of the District Task Force (DTF) for Immunization and Stop Diarrhoea was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Longleng, under the chairmanship of Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) C. Tsalimse Sangtam on June 11.
A DIPR report informed that at the meeting, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tiasunep, highlighted the importance of immunization, hygiene, and diarrhoea prevention. He urged all attendees to raise awareness about diarrhoea and promote the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc tablets in the community.
Providing a district immunization status report, Dr. Imtijungshi, District Immunization Officer (UIP-RCH), Longleng, discussed the percentage of zero-dose children, dropout rates, and the challenges in improving immunization coverage. He called on NGOs and stakeholders to support the effort in achieving vaccination targets.
Explaining the causes of diarrhoea, Dr. Imtijungshi said that it stems from infections spread through contaminated food, water, and poor hygiene. He emphasized that safe drinking water, improved sanitation, and proper hand washing can significantly reduce the risk of diarrhoeal diseases.
He advised that diarrhoea should be treated with ORS—a mixture of clean water, sugar, and salt—along with a 10–14 day course of zinc tablets to speed up recovery and improve health outcomes.
EAC C. Tsalimse Sangtam, stressed the need for active participation from departments such as Social Welfare, School Education, and Health & Family Welfare to ensure routine immunization and support disease elimination campaigns.
