DIMAPUR: The District Task Force meeting on National Immunization Day (IPPI) was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, at his office chamber on June 24.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting deliberated on key public health issues including biomedical waste management, fire safety compliance, disaster preparedness, maternal and neonatal health and immunization activities.
Concerns were raised regarding biomedical waste disposal in Kohima. The DC stressed the need for a uniform and sustainable waste management strategy across health facilities and directed the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent to formulate a concrete action plan. He noted that accountability has become stricter following Supreme Court directives and informed that solid waste management at Lerie will soon be reactivated.
Health officials highlighted gaps in fire safety infrastructure, disaster management training, water supply, power backup and equipment in district health facilities and Naga Hospital. The DC assured administrative support and resource mobilization to address these challenges.
The meeting also reviewed maternal and neonatal mortality cases, emphasizing institutional deliveries, antenatal care and timely referral services. Officials requested greater accessibility of life-saving medicines, such as surfactants for premature newborns, under government schemes.
On National Immunization Day, DPO RMNCAH+N, Kohima, Dr. Khrielhoukho Nakhro, informed that the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme will be conducted across Kohima district on June 28 from 7 AM to 3 PM. The DC directed all subdivisions and departments to extend necessary support for its successful implementation.
Earlier, Paediatric Unit NHAK, Dr. Avonu from the presented a case review on child death, while DOM Kohima, Dr. Imna, spoke on quality assurance. Concluding the meeting, the DC reiterated the importance of inter-departmental coordination and assured continued support, stating that Kohima must lead by example in implementing government programmes and public health initiatives.
