DTST celebrates 25th anniversary

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, JUL 9 (NPN)

Dimapur Tzürangkong Senso Telungjem (DTST) celebrated its 25th anniversary on Wednesday at IMC Hall, Fellowship Colony, under the theme “Nukmensen,” meaning “Renewed Vision.”
Advisor of Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, graced the programme as special guest, while Rev. C. Walu Walling was the theme speaker.
In his speech, Moatoshi appreciated the elders for founding DTST with wisdom and unity. He said the occasion was a time to thank God and urged all to focus on serving others rather than chasing wealth. Drawing Biblical references during his address, Moatoshi shared how ancient Israelite kings marked jubilee by freeing slaves, returning land, and resting the soil—all symbolic reminders that the land belongs to God and people are only caretakers.
He urged the gathering to adopt a mindset of stewardship over land and resources, warning against selfishness, dishonesty and materialism.
“All possessions are temporary—we will one day leave everything behind,” he said, encouraging all to use their time to serve the poor and needy.
Touching on the state’s economic future, Moatoshi cautioned that government job opportunities are becoming increasingly limited. He cited the recent Forest Guard recruitment exam, where thousands of applicants vied for just 154 posts, illustrating the rising competition in the public sector.
He cautioned that with growing competition in limited government sectors, those unprepared for business may need to return to farming.
Speaking on the theme “Nukmesen”, Rev. Walling stressed that real progress must come from within. He raised concern over internal conflicts, village disputes and lack of unity, warning that without peace, development will remain out of reach.
He emphasized Tzurangkong’s vital role in the development of Mokokchung, mentioning that while other areas lack space or livelihood potential, Tzurangkong holds promise—if its people unite and act.
He also challenged DTST members, especially those living outside Tzurangkong, to move beyond symbolic celebrations and contribute meaningfully toward real change. “Will this celebration be just a feast to be forgotten, or will it mark the beginning of transformation?” he asked.
Rev. Walling urged locals to seize emerging opportunities and not let outsiders build their future for them. “It’s time to wake up and take responsibility,” he said, calling for a renewed sense of ownership, purpose and collective action.
The programme was chaired by Aosanen and Purchila Imchen. Scripture reading and invocation were led by Talinungsang. DTST president Lanuyanger Ozükum delivered the welcome address, and vote of thanks by the Jubilee Planning Committee. Benediction was by DTST treasurer, I. Panger Longchar.
Short speeches were given by STST’s first general secretary, S. Wati Imchen, and presidents of Ao Senso Telungjem Dimapur, Tzürangkong Senso Senden, and Kohima Tzürangkong Senso Telungjem. The Jubilee souvenir was released by the special guest and editorial board, led by T. Wati Lemtur.
Highlights included a group song by Dimapur Longpangyimsen Watsü Telen and opening act by Dimapur Tzürangkong Watsü Telen.
