DU Assistant Professor Found Murdered in East Delhi Flat

New Delhi, June 5 (IANS): A Delhi University Assistant Professor was found murdered inside her flat in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave, prompting Delhi Police to launch a detailed investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and tracing individuals who may have visited the residence in the days before the incident. According to police, a PCR call was received at New Ashok Nagar Police Station at around 2:35 p.m. on June 4. The caller, identified as Devarati Paul, informed police that her sister’s body was lying inside a flat at Satyam Apartment in Vasundhara Enclave. A police team rushed to the scene, where Devarati Paul told officers that her sister, Devosmita Paul, an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College under the University of Delhi, had been living alone in the apartment. Police said the flat had reportedly been locked from the outside since the morning, and the deceased was not responding to repeated phone calls. Suspecting something was wrong, the complainant broke open the lock and discovered her sister’s body inside the flat.

The Crime Team later conducted a detailed inspection of the scene. The area was photographed and videographed, while forensic samples and other relevant evidence were collected for examination. Investigators said the professor had been residing alone in the flat for the past four to five years and largely depended on online delivery services for her daily needs. As part of the investigation, police are reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas to identify anyone who visited the residence in the two to three days preceding the murder. Details of delivery personnel and other possible visitors are also being collected. Police sources said Devosmita Paul had last spoken with her mother over the phone. When her sister later attempted to contact her, the phone was found switched off. After repeated unsuccessful attempts, the sister visited the apartment and discovered the body. The body has been shifted to LBS Hospital for preservation and post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at New Ashok Nagar Police Station. Multiple police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those responsible, while further investigation is underway.
