DUCCF annual meeting resolves key urban issues in Dimapur

In a significant development, Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) has resolved to oppose the recent hiking of sanitation fee by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) at its annual general meeting Monday, at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.
The DUCCF also adopted several resolutions aimed at addressing pressing civic and administrative challenges in the city.
DUCCF president Zasivikho Zakiesato, while addressing media after the meeting announced that the federation has resolved to maintain the existing residential sanitation fee of Rs. 60, rejecting the Dimapur Municipal Council’s (DMC) notification that proposed an increase to Rs. 100. He clarified that this decision followed a thorough consultation with DUCCF members.
Recalling a meeting held in November 2024, Zasivikho noted that DMC had sought DUCCF’s feedback on the proposed hike. However, the DMC issued a notification implementing the increase before receiving a response, leading to what he described as a “possible miscommunication.”
DUCCF has decided to establish three committees, each comprising seven members, to focus on key areas: i. Filing Right to Information (RTI) applications with the DMC, ii. Coordinating with the Urban Development Department to gather information on completed and upcoming projects in Dimapur and iii. Investigating issues surrounding the State Multidisciplinary Stadium in Dimapur.
Zasivikho emphasized the significance of transparency in public projects, particularly regarding the stadium, which has drawn widespread attention. “Filing an RTI about the stadium is a big responsibility, but we are doing it for the sake of the younger generation,” he stated.
He highlighted the inconvenience caused by the current location of the District Transport Office in Chümoukedima, which is now a separate district.
He urged the concerned authorities to relocate the office back to Dimapur, as the NL-07 registration continues to belong to the city.
Zasivikho appealed to the relevant department to expedite the opening of the flyover in Dimapur, emphasizing its importance in easing traffic congestion and enhancing urban connectivity.
He said that the federation also discussed the adverse impact of multiple taxation, which has significantly burdened the public by driving up commodity prices.
Zasivikho called for unity among Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to address this issue collectively. He warned that without decisive action, the problem would persist, worsening the economic challenges faced by residents.
