Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has extended support to the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI)’s concern over the steep hike in prices of stone boulders, cement, rods, and bricks.
In a press release, DUCCF chairman Zasivikho Zakiesato and assistant general secretary Bokato Wotsa asserted that “such unreasonable escalation” in the cost of essential construction materials has placed immense hardship on the public, contractors, and small businesses alike.
The federation said that price hike not only affected infrastructural development but also burdened citizens who were struggling with the rising cost of living.
DUCCF stated that businesses were mostly shifting to neighbouring state Assam i.e. Khatkhatti-Loarijam or Dillia, adding that residents of Dimapur were purchasing items from there as the cost was cheaper.
The federation has questioned organizations involved into looking into those particular commodities or items. DUCCF said they explain to the general public how come rates were multiplying drastically compared with Khakhatti-Loarijam or Dillia. DUCCF also questioned why most of the businesses are shifting to Assam?
DUCCF urged the responsible authorities to take immediate corrective measures, regulate the pricing mechanism, and ensure transparency in the supply chain. “If left unchecked, these unchecked hikes will hamper both economic growth and public welfare,” DUCCF stated.
Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the interest of the people, the federation assured full cooperation in any collective effort initiated by CNCCI.
