DIMAPUR, OCT 30 (NPN): The Dimapur Urban Colony Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) is set to organise the first-ever Urban Challenge Inter-Colony Sports Meet 2026, tentatively scheduled for November 20 and 21 at the Dimapur State Stadium Multi-Disciplinary Complex.
The event will feature six traditional and indigenous-themed sporting disciplines, including tug of war, bamboo stilt racing, nail hitting, spear target hitting, wood cutting with a hand saw and rooster fight.
Addressing a press conference, DUCCF president Zasivikho Zakiesato said the initiative was aimed at bringing together the 97 colonies under 23 wards of Dimapur urban area through sports, while promoting unity, fellowship and traditional games.
He said the federation would distribute guidelines and participation formats to all 97 colonies within two to three working days. Colony councils would then select participants from their respective colonies to compete in the events. He clarified that there would be no age restriction for participation.
The DUCCF president said prize money would be awarded to winners, although details would be kept undisclosed for now.
Convenor of the core committee, Asalie Peseyie said the event was envisioned as an annual fixture that would bring together people across tribal, community and religious lines, reflecting Dimapur’s cosmopolitan character. He said the initiative also sought to preserve traditional games and reconnect urban residents with their cultural roots. The organisers expect participation from around 80 to 85 colonies, with each colony likely to send 20 to 25 participants, taking the total number of competitors into the thousands.
The 17-member core committee, comprising individuals from different professional backgrounds, has been constituted to assist the DUCCF in planning and executing the event.
Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation president Bokti Jamir said the organisation would assist in volunteer management and ushering, adding that more than 100 volunteers had been arranged for the two-day event. He also sought cooperation from the district administration, police and traffic department for crowd management and traffic regulation.
The event will be graced by chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio as the special guest, while MLAs and advisors H. Tovihoto Ayemi and Moatoshi Longkumer will host the programme.
