Dimapur Watsü Telongjem (DWT) has expressed deep concern over the allegations of sexual harassment by IAS officer Reny Wilfred on female employees under the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).
In a statement, DWT president Aoinla Jamir said the Watsu was “deeply disturbed and gravely concerned” by the accusations, noting that they were not isolated incidents as there had been similar harassment accusations against Wilfred.
DWT said it was troubling that despite earlier serious allegations of sexual offences, Wilfred continued to hold a position of authority in the state government.
DWT said the sexual harassment and assault were acts of violence, exploitation, and control as allegations of repeated misconduct by a high-ranking government official sent a chilling message and highlight the urgent need for accountability. It said abuse of power must never serve as a shield for predatory behavior.
The Telongjem commended the courage of those female employees who have come forward to speak the truth, often at great personal and professional risk.
DWT said the voices of the victims deserve to be heard, believed, and acted upon and that that no one should suffer in silence or fear retaliation when seeking justice.
The Watsu declared its support to the victims and demanded thorough and impartial investigation.
It also urged upon all institutions involved to prioritize transparency, accountability, and the safety of all female employees. DWT said continued inaction would only perpetuate harm and enable further abuse and asserted that it was time to end the culture of silence.
Further, DWT also appreciated the Nagaland State Commission for Women(NSWC) for taking the initiative to lodge a police complaint and also welcomed the suspension of Reny Wilfred by the state government.
DWT also urged the government to ensure a complete and transparent disciplinary process in accordance with the law.
