Dzükou fire: NPF slams PDA govt’s lackadaisical attitude

Urges Centre for CBI, NIA probe

Expressing pain and anguish over the ravaging wild fire at Dziikou valley, NPF slammed the PDA government for its “lackadaisical attitude” and urged the chief minister or his ministerial cabinet to personally survey area and do the needful steps to contain the fire as well as to protect the valley.

NPF stated that since the Dzükou valley can be termed as a National asset, it urged the Centre to immediately look into the matter with great seriousness and may even involve the CBI or NIA to probe the cause of the inferno.

Alleging that the inferno cannot be considered as a natural disaster, but a man made fire causing great harm not only to the beauty of the valley but also to the environment, NPF said that stringent action should be initiated against any miscreants found responsible for the fire.

Besides being a tourist hotspot, NPF said that the valley was also home to various species of flora and fauna and burning of such forest will deeply dampen the ecological balance.

Meanwhile, NPF lauded Governor, RN Ravi for showing his personal concern as the latter visited the blazing valley to take first hand information.

It also appreciated the Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, DC and SP Kohima, Forest department, Southern Angami Youth Organization volunteers and all those involved for giving their best effort to douse the blazing fire.
