Eastern Konyak Union protest drone strike at Khammoi village

Eastern Konyak Union (EKU), along with civil societies, village councils, student bodies and church organisations of Khammoi, held a public rally on April 6 to condemn the reported drone strike on civilians at Khammoi village in Mon district.
According to EKU, the incident occurred at around 2:55 a.m. when a drone allegedly dropped inside a thatch house, where an elderly man and his grandchild were asleep. Though the device did not ignite on impact, the house was completely damaged. Another drone reportedly exploded outside, causing panic among villagers. EKU claimed that at least three drones were involved in the strike.
The rally, held at Khammoi public ground, was followed by a march from New Colony. Participants expressed shock and anguish over what they termed as a violation of human rights principles.
The organisations stated that such actions by the Indian military forces endangered innocent lives and created fear among the community.
Speakers at the rally emphasised that the attack was unacceptable and urged authorities to uphold democratic values and protect civilian safety. The gathering resolved to stand united against such incidents and called for accountability.
