After an extensive nine-hour-long ‘Eastern Nagaland Public Meeting’ on Thursday, the members present reaffirmed to uphold the public emergency declared across the entire Eastern Nagaland area and to abstain from participating in the election process. The meeting, convened under the aegis of Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO), took place at CKS Hall in Tuensang town.
The house also reaffirmed to stand by the February 23, 2024 Chenmoho Resolution “not to participate in any Central and State election and all citizens of Eastern Nagaland shall refrain from casting vote” against the failure to settle the offer for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs, as assured by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 7, 2023.
Speaking to a section of the media after the meeting, ENPO president R. Tsapikiu Sangtam affirmed that the Chenmoho Resolution remains in effect, with no plans to withdraw it. He emphasized that it was a collective decision made by the public, and they intend to abide by it.
While acknowledging that there were differences and communication gap with the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union (ENLU) members, Tsapikiu mentioned that the ENLU members understood their stance during the coordination meeting and agreed to work together to pursue the matter. ENLU members also briefed the house on their recent meeting with Home Ministry officials regarding the ‘Frontier Nagaland Territory.’
Tsapikiu said the meeting as successful, which was also attended by representatives from all organizations under Eastern Nagaland, including current and former elected members.
It was learned that the ENLU members will be meeting chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
