Principal secretary of the Election Commission of India (ECI), N.T Bhutia, visited Chümoukedima on May 31, 2025, where he interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), the Deputy Commissioner (DC), and the District Election Officer (DEO) at the DC’s Conference Hall.
According to DIPR report, during the discussion, officials from Chümoukedima and Niuland districts shared the challenges faced during elections, particularly the absence of a DEO in Niuland. They suggested creating a separate DEO post for Niuland to improve election management. They also pointed out issues with infrastructure and manpower.
In response, Bhutia encouraged the officials to draft their requirements and submit them to the Commission. He assured them that their concerns would be taken seriously, with steps taken to strengthen the electoral process within the legal framework.
Later, Bhutia visited polling stations at Ghaspani-I and Ghaspani-II, where he spoke with officers about their responsibilities. He urged them to keep voter lists updated and ensure all eligible voters are included. He also reviewed the available facilities and discussed issues faced by polling officers to improve election preparedness.
