ECI Secy reviews SIR 2026 progress in Dimapur, Chümou

DIMAPUR: Secretary, Election Commission of India (ECI), Binod Kumar, reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 in Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts during meetings held on August 20 and 21.
According to DIPR report, at Dimapur, the review meeting was held at the DC’s Conference Hall in the presence of Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang. The meeting began with introductory remarks followed by a presentation on the current status and progress of the SIR exercise in the district.
Addressing the officials, Kumar highlighted the importance of Enumeration Forms (EFs) and urged Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to closely monitor the work of Booth Level Officers (BLOs). He stressed on thorough verification, accurate mapping, and timely completion of the exercise, while calling for greater coordination among DEOs, EROs, AEROs and BLOs.
BLOs from the three Assembly Constituencies under Dimapur were identified for review, including those attached to Khel Chakesang Colony E/W, Bank Colony and Pranab Vidyapith School Area (Dimapur I AC); Duncan Village “B” N/W, Industrial Village/Razphuphe 1 DC, Zeliangriang “A” and Government Higher Secondary School (Dimapur II AC); Toulazouma, Toulazouma I and Longsen (Dimapur III AC). Following the meeting, Kumar visited two polling stations under Dimapur III AC to assess field level implementation.
In Chümoukedima, the review meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Polan John, NCS, and attended by officials from the Chief Electoral Officer’s Office, EROs and AEROs of 4 Ghaspani I and 5 Ghaspani II Assembly Constituencies.
Kumar urged officials to adhere to the prescribed timeline and ensure timely completion of SIR related activities. Appreciating the work of BLOs, he encouraged them to update their findings within the stipulated time and discharge their duties diligently to maintain the integrity of the electoral roll. He emphasised that the SIR exercise would have a generational impact and called for greater effort, regular reviews and timely resolution of challenges.
During the meeting, DC Polan John presented the district profile, covering the total number of electors, polling stations, rationalisation of polling stations, and training and awareness programmes conducted in connection with SIR 2026.
Detailed discussions were also held on issues faced during the field exercise, with suggestions and measures deliberated to ensure smooth implementation of the revision process.
