Eco-friendly eri silk dyeing demonstration at Urra Village

A demonstration programme on eco-friendly dyeing of eri silk was held at Urra village, Chumoukedima, under the initiative of Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA), with the objective of imparting practical knowledge on value addition through sustainable dyeing techniques.
The programme was graced by Dr. Anil Kumar S.T., Scientist-B, and Pete Medoni, Supervisor and Farm Incharge. Dr. Kumar elaborated on the eri silk dyeing process, covering both traditional and modern methods, with emphasis on the use of natural plant-based dyes.
He highlighted the importance of scientific approaches in achieving quality and durability, and noted the growing demand for eco-friendly silk products in domestic and international markets.
Participants also received hands-on training from progressive entrepreneur Junaki Girisa, who demonstrated natural dyeing using tea powder.
The programme aimed to promote sustainable practices in silk production and equip local stakeholders with practical skills for enhancing market value.
