EDAVCCF seeks urgent allotment of dumping site

East Dimapur Area Village Council Chairman Forum (EDAVCCF) has expressed deep concern over the worsening waste management crisis in Dimapur and extended support to the demand of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) for immediate allotment of a new dumping site.
In a statement issued on Sunday, EDAVCCF said the existing dumping site being used by DMC had already reached saturation point and could no longer be utilised. It said continued dependence on the present location was not only impractical but also posed a serious threat to public health, sanitation and environmental safety.
The forum noted that Dimapur, being the commercial hub of Nagaland, generated a huge volume of solid waste daily.
However, the absence of a new and properly designated dumping ground had placed the municipal authorities in a difficult position, leaving the city vulnerable to waste accumulation and potential health hazards.
It therefore expressed disappointment that despite the seriousness of the issue, the concerned authorities were yet to provide a clear and decisive solution.
The forum said waste management was not merely a routine municipal task but a fundamental responsibility of governance and urban planning, and urged the state government and Urban Development department to immediately intervene and allocate a new dumping site without delay.
It cautioned that the situation had reached a critical stage and any further inaction would only aggravate the crisis and create larger environmental and administrative challenges.
The forum also appealed to citizens, civil society organisations and community leaders to support DMC in resolving the issue in the interest of public health, environmental protection and the future of the city, adding that failure to act now would only deepen the crisis.
