MOKOKCHUNG, JUL 31 (NPN): Eden Academy, Mokokchung celebrated its Senior Cultural Day 2026 cum Pre Tsüngremmung on Friday with a cultural procession and formal programme.
As part of the celebration, students, along with the guest of honour, academy administrators and teachers, participated in the traditional “Arr Yimdong Sü” (Vine Pulling Procession), which commenced from Jubilee Memorial College, Aongza, and concluded at Eden Academy, Kumlong. The procession symbolized unity and the significance of the Tsüngremmung Festival.
The event was graced by Moses Newmai, District Cultural Officer, Mokokchung, as guest of honour. Members of the Mokokchung District Art & Culture Council (MDACC) and parents of Grade 10 students also attended the occasion. Following the procession, a formal programme was held at the school campus where students showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Ao community in anticipation of the festival.
In his address, Newmai expressed gratitude for being part of the celebration. Highlighting the significance of the Arr Yimdong Sü, he said it symbolizes unity, collective effort, and the bonds that bring together people of all ages, leaders and guests. Historically, he noted, the procession was performed to drive away evil spirits and illness from the village, preparing the community to receive blessings of the festival.
Reflecting on the importance of cultural observances in the modern world, he said, “We celebrate because our culture is our root. A tree without strong roots cannot stand. No matter how far we go, we must remain anchored in our rich traditions and history.” He emphasized values of hard work, community bonding, unity and honesty as principles to uphold in contemporary society.
