The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has prohibited discharging/disposing of solid and liquid waste into natural water bodies, specifically into Dhansiri river and ponds, illegally by individuals, households and commercial establishments.
In a notice issued in this regard, the EDTC stated that such actions were in direct violation of environmental laws and posed a serious threat to public health, water quality, and the overall ecosystem.
The council directed that all forms of direct or indirect disposal of domestic, commercial, or industrial waste into the Dhansiri river and ponds be stopped with immediate effect; any sewer outlet/private drainage line that currently discharged human waste and other waste into the water bodies be removed or redirected by June 30; and disposal/discharge of waste at sugar mill nala by any individual, household and commercial was strictly prohibited and must be stopped with immediate effect. The EDTC warned that individuals found violating this directive would face strict penalties, including fines and possible legal action under applicable environmental protection laws.
