DIMAPUR: East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) on Wednesday continued its “Catch the Rain” campaign, taking the awareness drive directly to vendors as part of the second day of its rainwater harvesting and water conservation initiative.
The programme was conducted among vendors in the East Dimapur area, where councillors and officials interacted with shopkeepers and members of the business community to highlight the importance of conserving water and adopting rainwater harvesting practices.
Organised under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2.0 initiative of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, the campaign urged vendors and the public to harvest rainwater and use water resources responsibly.
Participants also took a water conservation pledge, stressing that every drop of water is valuable and underscoring the need for collective action to ensure sustainable water availability.
In Chümoukedima, the Town Council organised an awareness programme at DC’s Conference Hall. The programme was chaired by Er. Khriengunuo Theunuo, EAC (HQ), DC Office. Resource persons Er. Hutovi Swu, Executive Engineer, Water Resources Department, and Er. Longchendi Wati Longchar, Junior Engineer, PHED, highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting, efficient water use and practical conservation measures at household and community levels.
Delivering the closing remarks, Lhousito Khro, chairman, Chümoukedima Town Council, encouraged citizens to actively adopt rainwater harvesting practices and work collectively to protect water resources for future generations.
