EDTC warns against illegal dumping of waste into rivers and drains

DIMAPUR: The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has informed the general public within its jurisdiction that indiscriminate dumping of garbage, solid waste, sewage, pig waste, or any other waste materials into rivers, drains, and riverbanks is strictly prohibited.
According to the council, it has been observed that improper disposal of waste and the direct discharge of sewer outlets into rivers and drainage systems are causing serious environmental pollution and posing health hazards to the public.
In this regard, the council stated that any sewer line outlet found directly connected to rivers, streams, or drainage channels will be dealt with strictly through the imposition of fines and initiation of legal action as per the relevant rules and regulations.
Further, all piggery owners have been directed to install and maintain proper waste filtration and sedimentation systems before releasing any wastewater. The council warned that disposal of pig waste into drains without proper filtration, treatment, or sedimentation processes will not be tolerated.
The EDTC also instructed the public, shopkeepers, institutions, and all concerned to strictly comply with the directives. It warned that defaulters violating the instructions would face penalties and necessary legal action without further notice. The notification was issued in the interest of public health, sanitation, and environmental protection.
