Education for all round development: Patton

State deputy chief minister of Home, Road & Bridges, Y. Patton said that education was not merely for donning a degree and getting a job in government sector but was for all round development of a person. He also added that being an educated person should not be merely for personal sustenance but to be an asset for the upliftment of the society.

According to DIPR report, Patton said this in his address as special guest during the golden jubilee celebration of New Riphyim Students’ Union ((NRSU) as the special guest held at New Riphyim village, under the theme “Resilience to excellence” on December 19. Encouraging the students’ to achieve their goal in life, Patton said the main focus for a student was to pursue academic career with dedication and hard work as there was no short cut to success and no substitute to hard work.  Patton encouraged the students to start with strong determination, distinct aims and objective to become a contributory member of the society. While congratulating and acknowledging all the past and the present leaders of NRSU, he further added that in consonance with the vision and objectives of the pioneers, the union has immensely contributed not only to the students’ community but to the society as a whole since its inception.

He also stated that, with the world becoming a global village it was observed that the present younger generation was passing through very trying and disturbing time with information technology advancement, whereby he urged the students’ community in particular to make right use of these modern gadgets beneficially rather than to ruin one’s future. As an encouragement, Patton assured to award a cash amount of 10 lakhs and 5 lakhs to anyone clearing IAS/IPS, EAC/NPS respectively from New Riphyim Village.

On the golden jubilee celebration, Patton said jubilee in itself was a milestone achievement and reminded of the sacrifices and hardships rendered by the pioneers and under whose leadership and guidance the union has attained 50 glorious years. On the issue of any kind of development activities or road infrastructure, Patton said there should not be any land owner issue or obstruction as it would only hamper developmental works, wherein he appealed the concerned to extend support and co-operation.  Earlier, Patton unveiled the jubilee memorial monolith.

Guest of honour, Mhonrao Odyuo (retd) PA to DC, the first president of NRSU while recollecting the union’s foundation 50 years back expressed happiness to be part of the auspicious occasion.  Sr. SDEO (retd) Thungrhomo Odyuo speaking on the theme challenged the students to pursue their academic career with perseverance and sincerity withstanding any kind of difficulties in order to achieve their goals in life. President Lotha Students’ Union, Ashanthung Humtsoe congratulated the NRSU for successfully completing of 50 years. Chairman of New Riphyim Council, Nyimtsemo Odyuo thanked Y. Patton for being a part of the celebration. President NRSU, Adeno Odyuo in the presidential address welcomed the gathering and thanked all for their presence.
