Educational institutions across Nagaland have been actively engaging students through exposure trips, alumni gatherings, career guidance programmes and academic study tours, reflecting a commitment to holistic learning and community building.
ICFAI University exposure trip to Poilwa sheep farm
The Department of Education, ICFAI University Nagaland, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a one-day exposure trip to the Sheep Farm at Poilwa village, Peren district, on February 14.
According to a press release, the initiative aimed to extend students’ learning beyond the syllabus and classroom walls by immersing them in the natural environment. The visit provided opportunities for interaction and awareness on the economic, environmental and societal aspects of the farm. Students gained practical insights into livestock management and rural livelihoods, thereby strengthening their understanding of sustainable practices and community-based development.
Alumni Sunday at Patkai Christian College

Meanwhile, the Alumni Association of Patkai Christian College (AAPCC) celebrated Alumni Sunday at Bundrock Chapel Hall, PCC, Chümoukedima, on February 15.
Delivering the message, Krodilhou Vimera (Class of 2006) reflected on his formative years at Patkai, sharing how campus life shaped his character and faith. Drawing from the Book of Isaiah Chapter 6, he spoke on prophetic calling, stressing that true transformation begins with encountering God’s holiness, acknowledging personal shortcomings, and responding willingly to His call. He underscored that responsibility must be accepted with a willing heart rather than imposed.
Relating the message to contemporary society, Vimera highlighted challenges such as moral decay, corruption, division and hypocrisy, and urged introspection and spiritual renewal as the path to reform.
In her exhortation, Tiakhala Jamir Shimray encouraged the congregation to pursue education grounded in faith, character and truth.
NU organizes Soft Skills training workshop

A workshop on “Soft Skills Training” was conducted on February 12 for two batches of B Tech Students of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University at Kohima Campus, Meriema. The workshop was organized by the Training and Placement Cell of SET in collaboration with Keren Sumi (Certified Soft Skill & Communication Expert) to train and equip the students and improve their future job prospects. The students were trained on interview etiquettes, public speaking, participation in group discussions. A total of 48 students participated in the two sessions workshop. The participants gave very positive feedback about the workshop after the end of the workshop. I/C Training and Placement Cell, Shanchamo Yanthan stated that such workshops impart practical skills to the students and help in improving their communication skills. He also thanked NU-SET, Dean, Prof Sujata Dash, and Nagaland University Kohima campus, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof N Venuh, for providing the opportunity for the students.
Career guidance at Immanuel College

Immanuel College Career Guidance and Placement Cell, in collaboration with Eagle Crest Training Academy and Consultancy, organised a career guidance programme on aviation, hospitality and cruise industry at the college auditorium.
Resource person Juniper Phom, Admin and Training Head of Eagle Crest, highlighted the institution’s collaborations with various sectors and schemes, including its partnership with the Government of Nagaland. She informed that skill loans are available to trainees under government initiatives, while programmes such as Home Support Service Training benefit underprivileged youth.
Juniper emphasised the importance of adaptability, communication skills, confidence, teamwork and professional appearance in skill-based industries. She elaborated on career prospects in aviation, hospitality and cruise sectors, noting that industry partners regularly conduct recruitment drives, with online interviews arranged when necessary.
NEISSR BSW trainees undertake study tour

In another initiative, North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, organised an academic study tour for Bachelor of Social Work (6th Semester) trainees from January 28 to February 8, 2026. The tour covered Darjeeling district, the India–Nepal border, and Siliguri, promoting experiential learning and practical exposure to community-based institutions.
During the visit, trainees attended holy mass and visited SOJASI to observe initiatives in disability empowerment, sustainable agriculture and environmental responsibility. Cross-border exposure included visits to Nepal localities, Pashupatinath Temple, a Buddhist monastery and local markets, offering insights into interfaith harmony, cultural diversity and cross-border economy.
A trekking experience at Maharani Tea Garden and Beltar Resort in Kurseong provided understanding of local livelihoods, labour conditions and tourism-linked development. Interactive sessions organised by SASAC, Kurseong, focused on the ASHA programme, addiction and mental health, highlighting grassroots healthcare delivery and psychosocial support.
Field visits to MARG, Darjeeling, shed light on anti-human trafficking efforts and rehabilitation of vulnerable families. The trainees also visited Hayden Hall (NGO) and Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, learning about social enterprise, rehabilitation and conservation.
In Siliguri, they visited Jesu Ashram, a Jesuit-run centre offering free treatment and care for persons affected by tuberculosis and leprosy, and HLDRC, which works on participatory community development and empowerment of tea garden workers.
Reflection sessions and practitioner interactions helped trainees develop skills in observation, empathy, teamwork and community engagement. The institute noted that the tour was transformative, enriching academic learning while nurturing compassion, social commitment and readiness for professional service.
Pre-placement talk on Aviation, Hospitality and Tourism
The Placement Cell of St. Joseph University, in collaboration with Eagle Crest, organized a pre-placement presentation on the theme “Aviation, Hospitality and Tourism Sector” at the university auditorium, Virgin Town, Ikishe Model Village, Chümoukedima, on February 9.
The session, chaired by Ilito Achumi, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, commenced with an invocation led by Sr. Maria (BBA-B, VI Semester). Dr. V. T. Vasagan, Dean of Social Sciences and Management, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of such talks in preparing students for competitive careers and motivating them to explore diverse professional opportunities.
Two eminent resource persons from Eagle Crest addressed the gathering. Juniper Phom, Hospitality and Cruise, Admin and Training Head, introduced the organization and outlined its role in training and placement within the hospitality and tourism sector. She spoke on employment scope, professional roles, required qualifications, and essential soft skills, encouraging students to enhance communication and professional attitude.
Asheli Yepthomi, Aviation Trainer, delivered an informative presentation on the aviation industry, detailing job roles such as cabin crew, ground staff, customer service, and airport management. She emphasized grooming standards, personality development, communication skills, and discipline as key requirements for success in the sector.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Aching Susanna, Placement Coordinator, who expressed gratitude to the management, Eagle Crest resource persons, faculty members, and students for their support and active participation.
