Educational institutions across Nagaland conduct various programmes

Schools and colleges across Nagaland conducted cultural and literary fests, unity day, and even quiz in the last few days.

Yemhi Memorial College: Yemhi Memorial College celebrated its 3rd Literary & Cultural Fest 2025 organised by YMC Student Council on October 30, under the theme “Celebrating Diversity of Culture”.
A press release by the college stated that special guest, Senior Grade Deputy Registrar (Retd) Nagaland University and vice president, Sumi Hoho, Zunheboto, S Otova in his speech paid homage to late Rev. Yemhi, in whose memory the college was established.
He appreciated the theme of the programme and spoke on both cultural and literary aspects of it, and also emphasized the importance of preserving our identity and culture, while also refining and adapting ourselves to the changing times.
On the literary aspects, he reminded that Nagas did not have written script of their own and relied largely on the oral traditions; with advancement of modern technology and artificial intelligence which has created a wide gap has emerged in society.
Hence, he stressed that it was the responsibility of educational institutions to bridge this gap through proper education.
In conclusion, Otova expressed hope that the college would continue to produce responsible and aware individuals who would contribute positively to society.
The release added that a series of vibrant cultural performances were presented, including “Aphi Kighile”, presented by Sumi Culture troupe and “Sohi Mozho”, presented by Tenyimi Cultural Troupe, while a drama was presented by B.A 1st Semester students.
The release added that in the second session, different competitive events were held, which included public speaking, voice of Yemhians and various indigenous games.

Sainik School Punglwa: Sainik School Punglwa organized its annual inter house quiz competition on October 31, bringing together cadets from eight houses in a thrilling display of knowledge and analytical skill, with Col (Dr) Smiti Misra, Principal, Sainik School Punglwa, gracing the event as chief guest.
A press release by the school stated that the competition was held in two categories, junior and senior, with two cadets from each house participating in six rounds that tested their knowledge of current affairs, defence, literature, science and technology, audio-visual, and rapid-fire questions.
The release added that the chief guest congratulated winners and gave away the certificates, medals, and trophies. She also commended efforts put in by organizers for smooth conduct of the event.

Immanuel College: The Department of History, Immanuel College, in collaboration with NSS, celebrated the 150th National Unity Day on October 31, at the college auditorium.
In her address, HoD, Department of History, Imjungla Imchen, highlighted the life, vision, and enduring legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, whose leadership and determination played a vital role in uniting the nation.
Immanuel College, principal Dr. Th. Sharatchandra Singh, led the National Unity Day Oath, reaffirming the commitment to uphold national unity and integrity.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, echoing the spirit of patriotism and togetherness.

NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed National Unity Day on October 31, 2025 to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India at Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, Nagaland.
The observance was held to honor his visionary leadership and his pivotal role in uniting the nation after independence.
Dr. Toli H. Kiba, assistant professor, NEISSR, delivered an inspiring message on the life, vision, and enduring contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. She emphasized Patel’s unwavering commitment to social justice, national integration, and his pioneering efforts in bringing together the diverse princely states to form a united India.
Dr. Kiba further reflected that India today faces divisions in many areas – socially, politically, and regionally – and it is crucial for citizens to look back and remember the great leader who once united the nation. She urged everyone to uphold Patel’s ideals by promoting unity, understanding, and respect for diversity in every sphere of life. She stressed the importance of unity in diversity and encouraged everyone to uphold these values in their daily lives by fostering mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation among all communities.
Through the programme , NEISSR stated that it reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens and promoting national unity, peace, and harmony – values deeply aligned with the institute’s mission of ‘Engaging and Enhancing People for Peace and Sustainability.’

Unity college: The Red Ribbon Club and Community Engagement Cell of Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur, organized an awareness programme at the college seminar hall on October 31, under the theme “Our shared responsibility”.
The key highlight of the event was the insightful talk delivered by the resource person, Dy. Commissioner of Police (HQ) Dimapur Y. Ruth Muru, who spoke on vigilance, integrity, and ethical values. She highlighted the crucial role teachers play in fostering integrity by nurturing students who embody transparency, accountability, critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and self-awareness as responsible contributors to society. This was followed by a pledge led by Tajenyula Longchar, reaffirming the commitment to uphold integrity and ethical values.
Earlier, the session was hosted by Shikna M and invocation by Vinivi Achumi followed by a welcome address by principal, UCTE, Dr. Akala Longkumer. A special song was presented by C Baumai and Thondinaro. The event concluded with a word of gratitude from assistant professor, UCTE, Meliteu Chirhah.
