Educational institutions hold academic and cultural programmes

DIMAPUR

Educational institutions across Nagaland organized a series of academic and extra-curricular programmes on August 9, marking key milestones and welcoming new students.

KCK foundation day
Kohima College Kohima (KCK) commemorated its 58th Foundation Day at the college courtyard, attended by faculty, alumni, dignitaries, and family members of the founding team. Former minister Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, son of founding member Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami, delivered the keynote address, paying tribute to his father’s legacy and shared personal anecdotes on his vision and dedication to education.
Dr. Kire urged students to uphold the “four D’s”—Discipline, Devotion, Dedication, and Determination—and to remember the “three T’s”—Things Take Time—as guiding principles. KCK principal, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, highlighted recent student achievements in Nagaland University examinations and credited faculty and stakeholders for their contributions.
The event also featured the Annual Academic Awards ceremony organized by IQAC, where students received Scholar Badges, Departmental Awards, and Special Honors including the Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award 2025. Faculty members were felicitated for publishing in UGC-Care listed and international journals. Musical presentations added to the celebration.

JCC Kigwema freshers’ day
Japfu Christian College (JCC), Kigwema, celebrated its 29th Fresher’s Day with DC Chümoukedima, Polan John, as guest of honour. Addressing the students, he emphasized the holistic essence of college life, stating that true education must encompass values, decency, and productivity alongside academic excellence. He encouraged students to remain curious, support one another, and believe in their potential.
JCC principal, Prof. Visakhonu Hibo, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to nurturing new students and fostering a sense of belonging. Chairman, Board of Management, Tuolie Seleyi, reminded students that education was not merely about earning degrees but about acquiring wisdom and spirituality, urging them to put God first in all pursuits.

Science exhibition at St. Joseph University
The Life Science Departments of St. Joseph University organized a Science Exhibition on the theme “Preserving Tradition & Biodiversity in a Changing Planet” on August 8 at the University Auditorium.
The programme aimed to raise awareness on conserving biodiversity and protecting cultural heritage amid environmental changes.
Chairperson Mharhoni Tungoe opened the session and welcomed the gathering. Sister Roysam Sumata led the invocation prayer, followed by a welcome address from Dr. S. Jayaparvathi, Head of Zoology, who spoke on combining traditional knowledge with modern science to address biodiversity loss.
Dr. Gowri SA, Dean of Sciences, delivered the keynote address, highlighting climate change, cultural preservation, and community involvement in biodiversity conservation. Dr. Marsosang Pongen proposed the vote of thanks, and Dr. Bendangnaro Jamir gave the benediction.
Highlights of the exhibition included featured creative displays by students from Botany, Biotechnology, and Zoology departments; Zoology department showcased edible insects and crabs, along with an aquarium of fish species for sale; Botany and Biotechnology Departments presented herbal teas (blue and hibiscus), organic soaps (made from rice, honey, goat milk, aloe vera), buttermilk, broomsticks, bay leaves, stevia, plant saplings, mushroom cultivation in polythene bags, and biopesticides in spray bottles and a unique display of university and department logos made from pulses symbolized unity in biodiversity.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and visitors, promoting sustainable practices and traditional knowledge through science and innovation

MHSS Kohima freshers day
Modern Higher Secondary School (MHSS), Kohima, hosted its Fresher’s Day 2025 at the school auditorium, welcoming Class 11 students. Special guest Nikato Y Tamang, singer-songwriter, graced the occasion.
The event included an awards ceremony recognizing students and teachers for their performance, with certificates and cash citations. NBSE HSSLC Topper 2024, Bikram Sinha (9th rank, Commerce Stream), was felicitated. Vivo Kuotsu (Class 11 Arts) and Bipana Thapa (Class 11 Science) were crowned Mr. & Miss Fresher 2025, while Supongmeren Aier and Dichurho Joshou were named Mr. & Miss Multimedia 2025.

Good Shepherd High School Kiphire meeting
Alumni Association of Good Shepherd High School, Kiphire, held its first meeting with the school administration at the Headmaster’s office to discuss the upcoming 25th Anniversary in 2027.
Headmaster T.V. Thomas expressed gratitude to the alumni for their initiative and said the anniversary would be a moment to honour the school’s history and achievements. Members discussed forming a planning committee and shared ideas for the celebration.

FAC holds community extension service
A one-day community extension service programme was held on August 8 at Tzüsapang Baptist Church, Mokokchung, organized by the Department of Political Science, Fazl Ali College, in collaboration with the church. The event was held under the theme, “Constitutional Rights and Civic Duties: Awareness for an Inclusive Society.”
The programme aimed to promote awareness on constitutional rights and civic responsibilities, while integrating Christian values to foster inclusive citizenship.
Putusosang, a fifth-semester student, chaired the event, which commenced with an invocation prayer by Senti Jamir, deacon of the church. Rev. W. Supong, pastor of Tzüsapang Baptist Church, delivered the welcome address, followed by introductory remarks from Dr. E. Benrithung Patton.
A poem titled “I for an Impassioned Indian” was presented by Sentinaro, a fifth-semester student. This was followed by paper presentations—Sangpangmeren spoke on “Inclusive Citizenship: Building a Just and Participatory Society”, while Temsuienla presented on “Fundamental Rights: Empowering Every Citizen.”
An interactive session titled “Civic Values Circle” was conducted by students, where participants engaged in discussions on rights and duties, sharing personal reflections and Bible verses.
Feedback was shared by Helen Jamir, followed by a reflection note from Dr. Imnazenla Longkumer. The programme concluded with an acknowledgment by Temjeneremang and a closing prayer led by Sunep Jamir.
