As part of the academic and extracurricular activities, educational institutions across the state organised various programmes for the students.
Career Guidance Committee, Sao Chang College (SCC), in collaboration with Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, organized one day sensitization programme on “Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana” (DDU-GKY), on August 24.
A press release by SCC informed that the objective of the programme was to disseminate information and raise awareness about DDU-GKY, whereby the resource persons highlighted skill training courses offered to rural youth to enhance their employability and reduce unemployment in rural areas.
They also shared success stories of several trainees who were now able to earn living and support their families through DDU-GKY schemes.
The programme was attended by the principal, eight assistant professors, and 150 students, the release stated. SJC (A) fresher’s day: St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama (A), observed its 37th Freshers’ Day on August 24, at the Indoor Stadium of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama with Joint Chief Executive Officer, NSDMA, Home Department, Johnny Ruangmei as guest speaker.
A press statement issued by SJC informed that Ruangmei, in his speech advised the students to starting building their foundation if they are desirous for a life of excellence.
President of the Students’ Council Wansham B Phom delivered the welcome address. Earlier, the program was hosted by Areni Ngullie and Lhousievituo Zhunyu and invocation by Rev. Fr. Binoy Joseph.
Highlights of the event included special presentation by the hypnotic voices of Campus Hostellers, principal SJC Dr. Fr. George Keduolhou Angami welcomed the gatherings, folk dance by Ao Cultural Troupe, special song by Hrai and Co, dance presentation by the Beat Breakers and vote of thanks by Lomnyei Phom, Cultural Secretary, Students’ Council.
RRC MGM College: Red Ribbon Club (RRC), MGM College organized speech and poster-making competition in the college auditorium on August 23. The event aimed to raise awareness and foster engagement with important health issues. The speech competition centred on the theme ‘Remember and Commit,’ while the poster-making competition focused on ‘HIV/AIDS: Breaking the Chain.’
All RRC members actively participated, and winners of both competitions received cash prizes and certificates. RRC continues to engage students in activities that promote awareness and understanding of critical health issues like HIV/AIDS.
The program was chaired by Renben, invocation by L. Annastacia, followed by an introductory speech from Nodal Officer, RRC, Fuchumo Yanthan, who emphasized the importance of the themes and youth involvement.
Sazolie College: English department and Book Club of Sazolie College collaboratively organized the 11th Literary Day on August 23, at Vineizono Hall, with the theme “Understanding and Contextualizing the North East through Literature.”
The event was graced by Assistant Professor from Baptist College, Kohima Dr. Sentinaro, as resource person. Dr. Sentinaro highlighted the crucial role of literature in shaping the understanding and contextualization of a region. She emphasized how literature vividly represents culture and identity through narratives and settings that articulate local perspectives.
The event featured various competitions, including poetry writing, essay writing, painting and sketching, photography, and a quiz competition. Around 70 students participated. In the poetry competition, Kekhriesi-u and Shitsangmong from the English Department emerged as winners.
Asangla from the History department and Suman from the Education department won the essay competition. In the painting and sketching category, Nangshikala from the History department secured first place, while Dzüzütalü from the Psychology department finished second. In photography, Menuokhrienuo and Kekhriesi-u won first and second places, respectively. History department, represented by Zana K Aye and Sungsabeni, and the Psychology department, represented by Yashijungla and Sanjana, claimed first and second places in the quiz competition.
SJU: Department of Physics, in collaboration with the Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC), hosted a compelling special lecture on “Aspects of Physics in Nanoscience” on August 23, at ST. Joseph University (SJU), Chumoukedima.
The event drew a diverse audience of physics students, scholars from various departments, and faculty members from across the institution. Assistant Professor at National College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, Dr. Kumaresavanji, captivated the audience with his insightful overview of nanotechnology and its myriad applications in everyday life. His presentation highlighted the integration of nanoscience with various fields, illustrating its profound impact on both physics and other disciplines.
As the event drew to a close, Kezia, a third-semester UG student in the Department of Physics, offered closing remarks, extending gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and attendees for their participation and engagement.
The session was chaired by Sr. Angelle Shingnaisui, a third-semester MSc Physics student, invocation by Assistant Professor Lucy N Ngullie, Assistant Professor Dr. G. John James, welcomed the gatherings, Head of the Department of Physics, Dr. Gowri SA, introduced the esteemed guest speaker, Dr. M. Kumaresavanji and benediction by Sr. Mary Grace, a fifth-semester UG student in the Department of Physics.
