Educational institutions across the state organised various programmes and extracurricular activities for students, faculty and non-teaching faculty. MOC: Day two of Olivian Fest 2023, of Mount Olive College Kohima, themed “Harmonising Arts, Igniting Passion,” unfolded in a dazzling display of cultural day celebrations on Thursday.
The festivities were a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultures, featuring mesmerizing folk dances, enchanting traditional songs, and an array of splendid traditional attires.
Chairperson and managing director of MOCK governing body, Tokheni Sema, emphasized on the pivotal role of celebrating diversity. Sema urged students to embrace differences, fostering an inclusive environment that transcends tribal distinctions.
The guest speaker for the cultural day, was deputy director of Department of Rural Development, Kuputo Achumi. Achumi urged students to embrace their culture with pride, emphasizing the value of preserving the God-given heritage.
Highlighting the five aspects of culture—language, values and beliefs, symbols, rituals, and norms—Achumi encouraged students to grasp the significance of their culture and traditions. The event was honored by the presence of chairman of Daklane Panchayat, Neibulie Metha, and member of MOCK governing body, Khevito T Shohe, along with enthusiastic participation from members of the alumni association. Olivian Fest 2023 will go on till November 10.
SSP: Sainik School Punglwa hosted a motivational lecture for the cadets of classes IX to XII on November 8, wherein Brig Arupendu Gupta, Sena Medal, Brig (Info Sys) HQ 3 Corps delivered a lecture on the modalities of Services Selection Board (SSB). The speaker also gave a detailed guidance for the preparation of the Services Selection Board. The officer emphasised on the importance of communication skills and personality development to face the SSB confidently.
ICFAI University: A “traffic awareness programme” was conducted by Dimapur Traffic Police on November 8 at ICFAI University Nagaland campus, wherein resource person, assistant commissioner of police, Dimapur Traffic Police (Chümoukedima), Medemkala Tzudir highlighted about the various laws, rules and best practices of traffic.
MGM: MGM College Dimapur, Red Ribbon Club organised a speech and poster writing competition under the theme, “Give hugs not drugs” on November 8 at the college auditorium. At the programme, nodal officer, Fuchumo Yanthan highlighted the HIV and AIDS stigma.
KLC: Kohima Law College celebrated Advent Christmas on November 8 at the College premises, wherein assistant professor, Kezhokhoto Savi delivered the Christmas message.
PCC: Public College of Commerce (PCC) Dimapur with the Students Union hosted its 38th Freshers Day on November 6 at IMC Hall, Fellowship Colony, Dimapur under the theme, “Be the Change”, with philanthropist, Dr. Roland Lotha as the chief guest. At the programme, Limugha Assumi and Heto Chishi were declared “Miss & Mr. Freshers”.
SJU: A two-day national seminar on “Change and preservation in language, literature culture, and academia: Trends and directives” was organised by the department of English, St Joseph University, Chümoukedima on November 6-7.
The resource persons for the seminar were assistant professor, department of English, Dimapur Government College, Dr. Maongkala Longchar, and assistant professor, Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies (NTLS), Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Dr. Imlienla Imchen. The seminar focused on protecting and preserving our culture in literature and how language shaped identity in a society, spiritually, culturally, and emotionally.
In a separate event, SJU Chümoukedima, department of Biotechnology in collaboration with Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC) Dimapur, under Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Science, Ministry of AYUSH, government of India, on November 6 celebrated “8th Ayurveda Day 2023” under the theme, “Ayurveda for One Health”.
The students were addressed by keynote speaker, research officer (in-charge), RARC, Dimapur, Dr. Vilas Gangurde and research officer (Ay), RARC Dimapur, Dr. Deepak Rahangdale, who spoke on the benefits and importance of ayurveda. The vice chancellor, professor Dr. D. Gnanadurai inaugurated the “Herbal Garden” in the college premises and the exhibition of books and Ayurvedic products from RARC.
GMS Bayavü: Government Middle School (GMS) Bayavü, Kohima on November 7 conducted an exposure trip by hiking to Mt Puliebadze, Jotsoma, Kohima. The school informed that the activity was conducted as part of learning beyond classroom to know better the ecosystem and the environment. A total of 63 students of class 7 & 8 led by head teacher and three teachers undertook the hike.
UC: Two-day national seminar on the theme, “entrepreneurship, innovation, and infrastructure for sustainable development in North East India: Priorities and perspectives” was organised by the Department of Commerce, Unity College (UC) on November 3-4 at the College Seminar Hall with advisor, agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan as the special guest.
The seminar also addressed by professor, department of commerce & former pro vice chancellor, Nagaland University, Prof. A. K. Mishra, and former dean and director, GITAM School of IB, professor and chairperson, PGP, IIM, Kozhikode, professor and head, department of commerce, NEHU, Shillong, Prof. V. Krishna Kumar, as keynote speaker and valedictory speaker respectively.
