To encourage active participation of people as the central focus of India’s G20 Presidency and following Union Ministry of Education guidance, educational institutions across Nagaland have been organising a series of activities and programmes aiming at promoting and endorsing the theme of “Ensuring Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)”.
The activities are in line with the Ministry’s objective to create awareness and generate a sense of pride among various stakeholders like students, teachers, parents and community as a whole, about G-20, National Education Policy (NEP) and FLN.
The “Janbhagidari events” would lead up to the main event, the “4th Education Working Group (4th EdWG) discussion at Pune, Maharashtra” between June 19 to June 21, and culminate with the Education Ministerial meeting on June 22.
Educational institutions and other organisations in Nagaland also organised various other programmes as activities as part of academic and extracurricular activities.
GHSS Chozuba: As part of “Janbhagidari events”, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Chozuba conducted several programmes from June 2-8. The school organised a School Management and Developments Committee (SMDC) meeting, plogging, screening of Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), essay writing competition on the theme, One Earth, One Family, One Future”, and singing of National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Bharat state theme song.
GPS NNML: Government Primary School (GPS) Naga New Model Lotha organised an orientation programme on “G20 people’s participation, Janbhagidari, Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” under the theme, One Earth, One Family, One Future” on June 5 for the School Management and Developments Committee (SMDC), parents, teachers, and students.
During the programme, teacher-in-charge, Gracy Kithan gave a brief introduction to the G20. The importance of the G20 and the activities under its banner was highlighted by Ronbeni Kikon. She said participation of the community, parents, and the school as a whole was anticipated for the success of the G20.
The programme ended with a walkathon and plogging around the school area/colony, which was participated by the community along with the teachers and students.
KV Tuli: Kendriya Vidyalaya Tuli is organising various “Janbhagidari” activities to create awareness on G-20, NEP 2020, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy.
KV Tuli said the students, teachers and other stakeholders are actively participating in the various activities like storytelling, drawing on G-20, online quizzes, poem recitation, rangoli making, art & craft etc. focusing on the importance of the FLN, awareness on G-20 and NEP 2020 in the Vidyalaya. It said one-day district level virtual workshop on “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy” would be conducted in the Vidyalaya on June 13.
SJBS: Students of St. John Bosco School, Khonoma participated in the “Yoga Shivir” organised by Ghaspan Battalion of Assam Rifles on June 8 at the School Basket Ball Court.
AR: Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) conducted a visit to Kohima War Cemetery for seven students and three professors from Shiv College of Education, Faridabad Haryana, who reached Kohima on June 4 as part of the National Integration Tour from Delhi to Nagaland.
PGC: One day workshop on “Critical Thinking” was organised by the Research Committee in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Pfutsero Government College (PGC) on June 7 at PGC with assistant professor, Dr. Venusa Tinyi from department of Philosophy, University of Hyderabad, as the resource person.
During the technical sessions, “Critical Thinking I” and “Critical Thinking II: Logical fallacies in reasoning”, the resource person discussed on the importance of language, types of questions and disagreement on critical analysis. Dr. Tinyi also highlighted the participants on the formal and informal reasoning and the three types of logical fallacies.
SCC: The continuation of “Entrepreneurship Development Programme” at Sao Chang College, session on “Skilling and Entrepreneurship” for EDC registered students was held on June 8-9. Business skills such as “effective communication and innovation protection”, factors involved in the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in academics and the various schemes and support for students was highlighted in the workshop.
Inspector from district industries and commerce, Khumchopi Sangtam and Sucheli Sangtam, who is the resource person for PMFME scheme, highlighted about the PMEGP, PMFME and CMMFI and its avenues in context to present market, the scopes associated with skilling in different sector and departmental support given to entrepreneurs. On the second day, resource person, Alemla Chang, owner of Vintage Alem Pvt. Ltd and recipient of Governor award for skill development, highlighted the opportunities that are aviation, challenges and encouraged students to think beyond.
Earlier, in a separate event, planning committee of SCC organised a webinar programme on the topic, “NEP-2020: guideline, Implementation and Q&A session” with director IQAC, Nagaland University and nodal officer- NEP 2020, Professor Dipak Sinha, on June 7. During the webinar, Professor Sinha highlighted the guidelines of NEP-2020 and its implementation.
SXHSS: St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator conducted its first alumni day cum fresher’s meet on June 10.
