Educational institutions organise programmes

Educational institutions organised various programmes for the students, teaching and non-teaching staff as part of their academic and extracurricular activities.


NU: A two-day national workshop on crafting qualitative research was organised by the department of sociology at Nagaland University, in collaboration with the Indian Sociological Society, on March 27-28. NU said the workshop, tailored for young research scholars in the field of social sciences, was graced by NU vice chancellor, Professor Jagdish K Patnaik, as the chief guest. The VC underscored the contemporary significance of mastering qualitative research methodologies in his address. NU said the workshop aimed to equip young scholars with essential skills and knowledge required for conducting qualitative research effectively. It said the workshop served as a platform for fostering academic exchange and collaboration within the realm of social sciences.


MC Piphema: A four-day evangelical camp organised by Modern College, Piphema evangelical union got underway on March 28 at the college’s Indoor Stadium under the theme, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). Altogether, 62 campers along with teachers are taking part in the programme which is in sync with the Holy Week. The college said the camp aimed to bring the young students closer to God and become better Christian. The camp speaker is Moatoshi Imsong and resource persons are Wochamo Odyou, L.E Mathew, Dr. Martemjen and James Swu.


YMC Dimapur: In celebration of “World Theatre Day 2024”, the Literary Club under the aegis of English Department, in collaboration with General Student’s Association of Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur organised a drama competition on the Great Indian Play “Abhinljana Shakuntalam” under the theme, “Theatre and a Culture of Peace” on March 28.


Highlighting the significance of the event, assistant professor, English department, Vinatoli Francisca, encouraged the audience to turn to theatre as a source of inspiration, resilience, and renewal while navigating the challenges of the rapidly changing world, reaffirming their commitment to the enduring power of theatre to illuminate, educate, and inspire. During the competition, seven academic departments presented the seven acts of “Abhijnana Shakuntalam”.


ICFAI: A talk on “economics of natural and non-natural rate of unemployment” was organised by the department of economics, ICFAI University on March 27 with economics and statistics officer, Dr. Tumbenthung Y Humtsoe, as the guest speaker.


Speaking on how unemployment problem is a pressing national and a growing global economic concern, Dr. Tumbenthung highlighted that with unemployment rate in Nagaland the highest among the states of India, the problem has become even more pressing and even more growing state’s concern. In this context, the speaker talked about what unemployment is and how it is conceptualized and analysed in economics.


He also encouraged the students to think about contextualizing the theoretical concepts to our context, i.e., unemployment in Nagaland and see if the concepts can provide an explanation and solution to the unemployment problem in our state.


SCC: A workshop on “data collection for history writing” was organised by the department of history, Sao Chang College (SCC) Tuensang on March 27 for the BA 6th semester history honours students with associate professor, Dr. Iris Odyuo, as the resource person. The resource person highlighted the importance of data collection of both the primary and secondary sources for reliability and accuracy to construct a comprehensive understanding of past events, societies and culture in historical writing. Altogether, 31 participants, including faculty, took part in the workshop.
