Educational institutions, others organise programmes for students

As part of academic and extracurricular activities, various programmes and activities were organised by educational institutions and other organisations for the student community and faculties.


NU: Department of Law, Nagaland University (NU), Lumami, organized a virtual invited talk-cum-sensitization programme and dissemination of information on India’s three new Criminal Laws on June 3.
A press release by PRO, NU, Peter Ki, informed that resource persons were former Dean and Head, PG Dept of Law, Gauhati University, former Advocate General, Assam as well as Designated Senior Advocate, Guwahati High Court, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Borpatra Gohain and advocate on record, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, Anas Tanwir.


Delivering welcome address, HoD, Dept of Law, NU, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Panwar delivered a brief history of the previous laws and highlighted their misuse.
A brief speech was delivered by Dean, School of Social Sciences, NU, Prof. M.K. Sinha.


Delivering a special address, vice-chancellor, NU, Prof. JK Patnaik, expressed happiness to the department for organizing the programme and said that new laws were a renewed look into the outdated legal texts.


Awareness on career guidance: District Employment Office, Model Career Centre (MCC) Phek organised an awareness session on National Career Service (Career guidance) at Christian Home School Phek on June 3.


The programme was aimed at promoting and spreading awareness on National Career Service under the Ministry of Labour &Employment.
Sekhosayi Vero, Employment Officer, MCC Phek, emphasized on the varied career opportunities available and the significance of skill-related courses amidst traditional career ventures.


Roseline Pojar, LDA cum Computer Assistant shared her student journey as well as clearing NSSB exam in 2022.
Zhozoto Nakro, Young Professional, MCC Phek captivated the students with discussion on career selection based on the SWOT and RIASEC Model.


The programme was sponsored by Ministry of Labour & Employment, Directorate General of Employment.


Assam Rifles: Assam Rifles celebrated “National Smile Day” on May 31 with children and students in Kohima, Phek and Wokha districts. The day was also celebrated with students and teachers of Government Middle School (GMS) Bamanpukhri, Dimapur.


In a separate event, Assam Rifles observed “‘World No Tobacco Day” on May 31 at Government High School Akhegwo, Phek district, with an aim to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.


The event emphasised the urgent need for individuals to take a stand against tobacco. A total of 48 students, three teachers and school principal attended the event. The event concluded with a pledge taken by all the attendees to curb the use of tobacco around them.


NEISSR: NSS unit of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) in collaboration with The Himalayan Clean up (THC) 2024 organised a cleanliness drive on June 3 at NEISSR under the guidance of THC volunteers.


The students took part in the drive by cleaning the surroundings followed by segregation of wastes into product categories. Waste management team of NEISSR will convert plastic waste into useful product.
The main objective of this drive was to raise awareness about waste segregation and promote cleanliness and Zero Plastic Environment.


Meanwhile, North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) on June 1 organised a farewell programme for its 2022 to 2024 batch. The gathering was addressed by NEISSR principal, Dr. CP Anto, who encouraged the students, as social workers, to be the voice for the voiceless.
