Eastern Konyak Union (EKU) has expressed appreciation to NSCN/GPRN (I-M) leaders– Th. Muivah ato kilonser; Q. Tuccu president; V.S. Atem deputy ato kilonser and Anthony Ningkhan Shimray, longvibu—along with Mount Veda Peace Mission, Eastern Nagaland, for their “tireless efforts towards Naga unity.”
In a statement, EKU said the 79th Naga Independence Day celebration held on August 14 in the Eastern Konyak area marked a sign of Naga unity and peace as different groups and factions came together. The union also lauded the Mount Veda Peace Mission team led by Laopa, Atam Rungsung and Wangpha for taking courageous responsibility in fostering unity and peace among Naga groups both physically and spiritually.
EKU noted that the mission also organised sporting and recreational activities for students during the celebration under the supervision of Ningkhan Shimray.
According to EKU, the people of Eastern Konyak refrained from participating in any other Independence Day programme but instead witnessed for the first time Naga national workers uniting physically and morally under the initiative of NSCN (I-M). It said if all Naga leaders realised the importance of unity, it would strengthen the Naga national cause. EKU reiterated that Eastern Nagaland was neither India nor Burma as declared by the Naga National Council since the 1950s, but lamented that the people continued to suffer due to divisions and the multiplication of groups. EKU also expressed dismay at some Naga leaders who referred to Eastern Nagas as Burma/Myanmar people, terming it as immature and unfit for Naga leadership.
EKU appealed to all Naga leaders to emulate the example of NSCN (I-M) in pursuing genuine unity and peace among different groups. It reminded the NSCN (I-M) leadership to continue working towards uniting all factions through internal strategies, cautioning that unity should not be a temporary plan or a show for social media, but must be a genuine and responsible effort as “the innocent people have suffered enough for the Naga national cause.”
EKU appreciates NSCN (I-M) leadership for unity efforts
