Elderly Man Stabbed to Death Over Financial Dispute, Accused Arrested

A shocking murder case has emerged in Mumbai’s Nagpada area, where an elderly man was allegedly stabbed to death following a financial dispute. Police said the victim, Mohammed Iqbal Ibrahim Selia, was attacked at his residence on Maulana Azad Road on Monday evening. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Sadiq Akib Jawar of Mira Road, was arrested on Tuesday, and a case has been registered at Nagpada Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Tanzila Mohammed Iqbal Selia, her husband had invested around ₹65 lakh with Jawar. A dispute reportedly arose over monthly returns linked to the investment, which escalated into a violent confrontation. In a fit of rage, Jawar allegedly attacked Selia multiple times with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries to his neck, chest, abdomen, and hands, leading to his death on the spot. Police described the nature of the attack as extremely brutal.

Investigators are probing financial records to establish the full extent of the dispute and whether others were involved. Officials noted that the case highlights the growing trend of violent crimes linked to financial disagreements. In a similar incident in September 2025, Mumbai Police arrested a man for allegedly hiring a contract killer to murder his 70-year-old businessman father, Mohammad Syed, over a property dispute in Kandivali. In that case, CCTV footage revealed two assailants entering the factory premises before fatally stabbing Syed and disposing of the weapon in a water tank. Police said both cases underline the dangers of financial and property disputes escalating into deadly violence.
