Shops and business establishments including vehicular movement in Jalukie town came to a halt for several hours when protestors clamped a total shutdown after the badly mauled dead body of an elderly woman from Mpai village was discovered Saturday.
According to reports, the victim suffered deep cuts on the head and probably succumbed to injuries early Saturday morning.
Sources suspect that miscreants had gone to the house of the victim to commit robbery Sunday night and had hacked her on the head. The victim, sources said, used to sell locally fermented beans to earn a living.
Meanwhile, Jalukie Town Youth Organization expressed strong condemnation over the horrific murder of Akiam, of Old Market Colony Jalukie town. JTYO president Ireu Zeliang said such incidents were rare and could not be tolerated under any circumstances. It further appealed to the district administration and the police to immediately arrest the culprit and take appropriate measures to prevent such cases in the future.
Further, JTYO also offered its deepest condolence to the bereaved family.
