
Along with rest of the state, 14 Southern Angami-I Assembly Constituency went to poll on February 27. Altogether the constituency consisted of 20 polling stations with around thirteen thousand voters. Four candidates Vikho-o Yhoshü NDPP, Khrielezo Bio NPF, Medokul Sophie NPP and Nagakul Tase INC are contesting from the 14th Southern Angami – 1 A/C.
Earlier in the day candidates Vikho-o Yhoshü and Khrielezo Bio and their wives were the first to cast their votes at 7 Kigwema, MH Upper polling station. Medokul Sophie and Nagakul Tase also casted their votes from Jakhama Middle Panchayat Hall polling station.
A DIPR report stated that among the voters were Vilhelie Kere (23) a Person with Disability (PwDs) from Kigwema village also exercised his adult franchise. A villager who was present nearby to cast his vote narrated how Vilhelie despite his disability is a skilled carpenter and takes care of his parents and siblings.
The GHS Jakhama town in 14th Southern Angami-I was manned by all women presiding officials and security personnel. The purpose of having an all women team was to encourage women participation in the electoral process.
Video surveillance were fixed in all the polling stations and facilities like chairs, drinking water, waiting shed, toilets and wheel chairs for PwDs were also provided for the voters. Young, old and differently abled actively participated in the electoral process.
Polling station manned by differently abled persons: For the first time in Wokha district one of the polling stations under 38 Wokha Assembly Constituency was manned by highly qualified and dedicated differently abled polling officials. The polling personnel are working in different departments and banking institutions holding responsible professions.
Polls in Tening held peacefully: The 13th General Election for 6th Tening Assembly Constituency of Nagaland Legislative Assembly took place in all the Polling Stations on Tuesday.
According to official reports due to technical problems polling in some of the booths started late, but by and large the election process was peaceful in all the polling stations, a DIPR report stated.
New Market polling stations lead in ‘Clean Election’ : Two polling stations under the 8th Western Angami Assembly Constituency – New Market-I and III polling stations led in ‘Clean Election campaign with ‘one man, one vote’ in full swing cited a report from Kohima.
New Market-I polling station recorded 640 votes out of 768 while New Market-III polling station recorded 288 votes out of 356 voters, the report stated.
It also said, New Market Area Panchayat (NMAP) and New Market Youth Organization (NMYO) maintained strict vigil throughout the polling period on Tuesday disallowing any proxy vote in both the stations.
NMAP chairman, Kuotsu Kehie, expressed satisfaction over the polling conducted under their jurisdiction.
“As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) Representation of Peoples Act 1951, every person who has attained the age of 18 has the right to vote,” he cited, adding that in a democracy he or she has the right to caste vote in favour of a candidate of their choice.
He also said that whichever candidate wins the election from the seat, the elected legislator should work for the development of the assembly seat and revealed that two most important priorities of the New Market colony is the road development and the construction of New Market Area Panchayat hall, the report stated.
New Market area is the one of the oldest colony in the state capital which needs immediate attention especially in road development, as most of the vehicles, be it private, government or commercial, traverses along the subsidiary road that passes through the colony.
Dr. Shurhozelie, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire exercise their adult franchise: Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and NPF president, Dr. Shurhozielie Liezietsu, cast his vote for the 13th NLA at L-Khel Upper I polling station on Tuesday. The 10th Northern Angami 1 assembly constituency also had two all women polling stations at 20 Baptist Higher secondary school and 21 GMS Keyake.
