In a fresh incident of human–elephant conflict, a herd of around 20 wild elephants reportedly destroyed multiple betel nut farms in Litchüyan village under Changpang Block, Wokha district. The destruction occurred around 7:30 a.m. on September 14, leaving an estimated 9 to 10 farms severely damaged.
Villagers, gripped by fear, said they were unable to assess the full extent of the damage as the elephants remained in the vicinity. Speaking to Nagaland Post, Changpang Block VDB Secretary Association president, Sentsüdi Yanthan, informed that the matter has been reported to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Wokha, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Changpang, and Assistant Conservator of Forests and appealed to the authorities for compensation to affected farmers.
Yanthan further stated that human–elephant conflict in the area has been a persistent and worsening issue, with repeated crop losses pushing farmers to the brink. Many villagers described the situation as a “major issue” that required immediate government intervention and called for measures to prevent future incidents.
