Launches Rs. 35 cr skill mission for youth employment

Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio officially launched the Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM) at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex, Kohima, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to empower youth through skill development and entrepreneurship.
According to DIPR reports, calling the initiative a milestone, Dr. Rio highlighted NSEDM’s role in bridging the gap between education, training, and employment. He encouraged youth to embrace self-reliance and look beyond government jobs, urging them to contribute to the economy by acquiring market-relevant skills. He emphasized the importance of the NSEDM digital portal and schemes like the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) in supporting this effort. He congratulated the training partners and expressed optimism that their contributions would significantly uplift the state’s socio-economic landscape.
Chief Secretary Dr. J. Alam, underscored the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and shared that NSEDM will operate through a convergence model, aligning efforts of various departments. Rs. 35 crore has been allocated under CMMFI, expected to benefit 1,600 entrepreneurs.
Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister, Kesonyu Yhome, who chaired the launch, noted that NSEDM aims to skill and employ 5,000 youth across sectors including construction, healthcare, hospitality, IT, and green industries. The program targets 60–80% placement or entrepreneurship outcomes and promotes hands-on expertise over academic dependency.
Three training partners—Eagle Crest, Pinnacle Skills, and AISECT—have signed MoUs to deliver training. The NSEDM portal will go live for registrations on June 9, 2025, at https://nsedm.nagaland.gov.in.
