Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has expressed surprise that the department of higher and technical education was “not left out of the taxation” by the “underground groups” despite knowing the fact that higher and technical education was not a revenue generating department.”
ENCSU through its media cell said that “demanding” tax from the department was like demanding from their own children. Stating that it extended “moral support for the cause of Naga nationalism”,
ENCSU, however, said it was against the “Naga Underground Groups wanting to siphon off funds meant for student welfare from the Department of Higher and Technical Education.”
Further, asserting that it was disturbed by the “interference of NPGs in the form of taxation”, the ENCSU has affirmed to “support the voice” of Minister of H&T Education Temjen Imna Along “against taxation by the underground groups.” ENCSU has appealed to various Naga political groups to “reconsider taxing or interfering with the Department of Higher and Technical Education.”
ENCSU has also urged the department to be clean, transparent, honest and judicious in handling the funds meant for students and college infrastructural development in the state.
