Enforce COPTA Act strictly: WSSU

Expressing concern on the sale of tobacco products to individuals below 18 years and within 100 year radius of educational institutions, the Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) has called for stricter enforcement of COTPA Act of 2003.

The union said despite the existing regulations under the COTPA Act of 2003, many shops continue to flout the laws. In this connection, Western Sumi Students’ Union appealed to District Anti-Tobacco Squad to take immediate and decisive action to address these violations and cautioned that failure to do so will compel the union to take further necessary measures.

Western Sumi Students’ Union also warned shop owners to strictly comply with the law, failing which they will face strict consequences as prescribed by legal provisions.

The union also appealed colony chairpersons, community leaders, and concerned residents to extend their full cooperation in enforcing the law, ensuring a tobacco-free environment around educational institutions within their respective jurisdictions.
